76153 - Avengers Helicarrier
Cool Avengers ship for kids, guaranteed fun and a great building experience. Ideal for children aged 9 and up, but my younger kids aged 7+ could handle it just fine.
First Impression
The chassis is a bit dull, but sturdy. The set feels robust, and most parts are well-secured. I found the colors in the booklet hard to distinguish, which sometimes confused me.
Building Experience
You build the chassis in sections, which keeps the process manageable. The chassis consists of three separate parts that you easily click together, just like the engine. The "wings" are the same four times, which is quite repetitive. But well, for a child, that matters less.
The mechanism to make the rotors spin requires some fiddling, as it runs almost the entire length of the ship.
Nevertheless, it is a fun part of the build. The front window is cleverly built upside down, nicely done.
Details and Design
The mechanism that makes the rotors spin is a nice addition. The front windows are reversed, which makes them come off more easily. Also, the outer wings with the logo and the guns at the front tend to fall off quickly.
The prison at the back was a big hit with my son. It was often used during playtime, not only for the villain M.O.D.O.K., but for all sorts of figures. The little plane looks nice but is harder to open; when opening, the glass sometimes caused a wing to fall off.
Playability
The set is robust enough for play. The mechanism to spin the rotors and the cannon on top that shoots well make it very entertaining. The flames on the figures look cool but are quickly removed during play. There are a lot of figures included in the set, which is great.
Final Verdict
Overall, this is a fun set for kids. Building it is challenging and enjoyable, and the end result is good enough for play. The mechanism, the prison, and the cannon are absolute highlights.
