75190 - First Order Star Destroyer

I have owned this set for some time now, originally purchased because I have always enjoyed Star Wars. Although I'm less of a fan of the last three movies, I still thought this ship was worth getting. Additionally, my children were at an age where they could play with this ship. They played with it for a while, after which the ship ended up in the attic. And recently, I decided to put it back together completely.

Build Experience

Building this ship is honestly not very exciting. Especially the "wings" (actually the walls of the ship) are extremely dull to make. They are long, monotonous surfaces, and because the wings are symmetrical, you build exactly the same thing twice. Even though they tried to add some variation in the construction steps per wing, the experience remains mediocre.

The interior fortunately offers some variation. Elements like a lift, a deck, teleportation, and a hologram of Darth Vader add some variety.

Details and Design

The interior of the ship is quite nicely designed. It has enough small details to make it interesting, such as the little lift and the hologram function. However, the exterior lacks some variation and the design is rather repetitive.

Playability

The set is intended for children aged 7 and up, and that is quite apparent. It is very easy to put together, even my 6-year-old could do this (provided he concentrated). The ship offers decent play possibilities: firing cannons, opening the wings, and off you fly. Since it is somewhat heavy, the handle on top is quite handy.

Overall Opinion

This set scores points on playability and the fun details inside, but falls short in terms of building enjoyment. For young Star Wars fans, it's a good choice, but for builders looking for a challenge, it's not.
