21345 - Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera
When the set arrived, I wanted to start right away.
The packaging looks chic and immediately gives a sense of quality.
Inside the box, I found four numbered bags.
What stood out to me upon opening the box was the intriguing design of the manual that instantly evoked a Polaroid photography vibe.
It is filled with background information.
Build Experience
The building process started off well, but unfortunately, I had to wait a day to really start.
When I opened the booklet, I was immediately absorbed in the background information on Polaroid photography.
The building itself was fun, although I found a few steps somewhat illogical.
It seemed like some steps were deliberately reversed to add more challenge.
The instructions were otherwise clear and not difficult to follow.
What made the building process really enjoyable was the mechanism for ejecting the photos.
The use of rubber bands and the sliding of LEGO pieces is a brilliant way to make it work.
Only when the set was nearly complete did I understand exactly how the mechanism was put together.
The least fun part was the slanted finishes at the end, but fortunately, these were quickly done. The photo box itself felt a bit pointless and is not fun to build; it is nothing more than a simple square.
The hardest part is the black viewfinder, no idea what you call it, which fell apart twice when I pressed it firmly, but that's probably due to my large hands.
Details and Design
The most striking detail of this set was undoubtedly the mechanism that makes the ejection of photos possible. The way the button applies force to the mechanism is brilliant.
The design of the camera is really super fun. It is realistic and well thought out.
Playability and Features
The set contains no play features like moving parts or hidden spaces, but the mechanism for ejecting the photos is certainly interactive.
This makes the set fun to play with for a little while; my kids enjoyed it for at least 10 minutes.
The set is great for someone who loves cameras, but not suitable for children.
Considering the front fell off multiple times during play.
Overall Judgment
The biggest plus points of this set for me are the mechanism, which is surprisingly well put together, and the design, which is both fun and realistic. The white slanted front fell off quickly when my kids played with it, but otherwise, the set was sturdy. The included box felt like an unnecessary addition and added no value.
